- General description: Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) contains both highly polar and apolar groups, which impart it an amphipathic character. It can dissolve in both aqueous and organic solvents. It is a commonly used solvent in hydrophobic pharmaceutical agents, exhibiting effective hydroxyl radical scavenging ability.[1][2]
- Application: DMSO may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in environmental samples by gas chromatography (GC) technique.[3]
- Caution: Supercools easily and remelts slowly at room temperature. Solidified product can be re-liquified by warming to room temperature without detriment to the product.
