Description

  • General description: Potassium nitrate is a water-soluble inorganic salt that is commonly used as nitrogen fertilizer.[1] It is also found in toothpastes[2] as a desensitizer for tooth hypersensitivity.[3] The addition of KNO3 to growth medium has shown to promote growth in salt stressed melon plants.[4]
  • Application: Potassium nitrate may be used in the synthesis of 5-bromo-8-nitroisoquinoline via bromination of isoquinoline using N-bromosuccinimide.[5]
