Description
- General description: Methyl Paraben is a stable, non-volatile[1], methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid[1][2]. It can find applications as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative in foods, drugs and cosmetics.[1][2] It is found to be noncarcinogenic and is highly effective against fungi like molds and yeast as well as bacteria.[1][2]
- Application: Methyl paraben was used a preservative standard in commercial food products, during an experimental investigation, done to study the application of microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC), in detecting food preservatives.[4]
