Description

  • General description: Platycodin D (PD) is a triterpenoid saponin found in the root of Platycodon grandifloras called Platycodonis Radix.[1]
  • Application: Platycodin D has been used:to test its anti-inflammatory and inhibitory effect on eosinophilic airway inflammation and T-helper type 2 (Th2) signaling pathways using ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic asthma mouse model[2]to test its anti-obese effects on the activation of brown adipose tissue featuring in vivo and in vitro studies[3]to test its efficacy as an adjuvant with infectious bronchitis (IB) vaccine in chicken[4]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Platycodin D elicits strong anti-cancer properties and exhibits cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines of both in vitro and in vivo origin.[1] It exerts anti-inflammatory and protective effects against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) by upregulating liver-X receptors α (LXRα) and ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) signaling pathway.[5] It also possesses protective effects against Cisplatin (CDDP)-induced nephrotoxicity in mice.[6]
