Description
- General description: Ceramides comprise spingolipids with acyl chains of C14 to C24 saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. They are present in most of the mammalian tissues.[1]
- Application: C24:1 Ceramide (d18:1/24:1(15Z)) has been used as an internal stand in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer.[2][3] It is also suitable for use as a standard in high-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry.[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Ceramide (d18:1/24:1[15Z]) levels are elevated inprimary open angle glaucoma (POAG).[5] It is a biomarker for the human arterial tissue and plasma major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACE).[6] In general, ceramides are key second messengers in sphingomyelin pathway and modulate the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases.[4]
