- General description: Bis-tris methane, also known as BIS-TRIS or BTM, is a zwitterionic buffering agent widely employed in biochemical and biological research. It functions effectively in aqueous solutions within a pH range of 5.8 to 7.2 and demonstrates minimal shifts in its dissociation constant. Further, it can be used as a substitute for the highly toxic buffer cacodylate and is also recognized for its ability to form complexes with different metals.
