• Detect the growth of aerobic, anaerobic and micro-aerophilic organisms from blood samples using Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ SIGNAL Blood Culture System
• SIGNAL Blood Culture System is a unique one bottle manual media system accommodating all patient populations and scenarios
• The system uses a special broth medium which enables a wide range of aerobes, anaerobes and microaerophilic organisms to be cultured in a single bottle
• A positive result is indicated when the blood/broth mixture is forced into the signal device by the pressure created by growing organisms
• The blood system is normally a sterile environment, so the detection of bacteria in blood (bacteraemia) is always abnormal
• Early detection of bacteraemia is of utmost importance because of the high mortality rates associated with this condition
• The SIGNAL Blood Culture System is a unique one-bottle system suitable for use with both adult and pediatric samples, and requires only the most basic laboratory equipment, making it suitable for high- or low-level-usage laboratories
• The SIGNAL Blood Culture System is manufactured to the International Quality Standard ISO 9001:2000 and is CE marked according to the In Vitro Diagnostic Directive 98/79/EC
• Easy-to-read-results: the SIGNAL Blood Culture System detects gases produced during organism metabolism, which causes an increase in pressure in the sealed bottle, forcing some of the blood/broth solution into the SIGNAL growth indicator chamber device giving a clear, visual positive display
• Reduced contamination: removable lid on indicator device permits samples to be taken directly from the sampling chamber, rather than bottle broth reducing the risk of potential contamination
• Cost-effective: does not require sophisticated laboratory equipment, just one bottle is needed to detect most aerobes, anaerobes and microaerophilic organisms Additional capabilities: although it is primarily designed for the culture of organisms from human blood samples, SIGNAL Blood Culture System is also effective at recovering organisms from other body fluids including joint, abdominal and CAPD (Continuous Peritoneal Dialysis)
