- Application: It is intended to be used as a USP reference standard in specified quality tests and assays.(1)Also used to prepare the standard solution for identification and assay of tobramycin and its different dosage forms using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and liquid chromatography (LC) combined with UV detection at 365 nm respectively, as prescribed in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for the following monographs:TobramycinTobramycin for InjectionTobramycin Ophthalmic OintmentTobramycin Ophthalmic SolutionTobramycin InjectionTobramycin SulfateTobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic SuspensionTobramycin Inhalation SolutionTobramycin and Fluorometholone Acetate Ophthalmic SuspensionTobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Ointment
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside. Mode of Action: Binds to 70S ribosomal subunit; inhibits translocation; elicits miscoding. Spectrum of Activity: Gram negative bacteria. Not effective against Enterococci.
