Description

  • General description: Dimethyl sulfoxide is an organosulfur, commonly used as a polar solvent that can dissolve a wide range of polar and non-polar compounds. It is also utilized as a reaction reagent in several well-known processes, including swern oxidation, 2a pfitzner-moffatt oxidation, 2b, and the corey-chaykovsky reaction. [1] [2]
  • Application: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been used:in the preparation of ethyl 4-[18F]fluorobenzoate.[3] in the culture medium for 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.[4]as a solvent in chemical synthesis. to dissolve and prepare stock solutions of small molecules, drugs, and chemical compounds for various assays and experiments.
  • Caution: Supercools easily and remelts slowly at room temperature. Solidified product can be re-liquified by warming to room temperature without detriment to the product.
