  • Choice of fixatives and preservatives Each unbreakable vial has a color-coded cap and label, a clearly marked “fill to here” line and a built-in collection spoon in the screw-cap top 10% Formalin Fixative (Neutral Buffered) Preserves fecal specimens for concentration and direct examination Culture and Sensitivity (C & S) Media Used for the recovery of enteric bacteria, such as Salmonella , Shigella , Campylobacter and Yersinia Medium includes a pH indicator that detects acidic conditions for optimal enteric pathogen recovery Clean Vials A 30mL leakproof vial for specimens that do not need a transport medium Enteric Plus (Cary-Blair) Media Maintains the bacterial population of enteric pathogens such as Yersinia, Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter and Vibrio Cholerae for up to 96 hours MF (Formaldehyde, Alcohol and Merthiolate) Fixative For the routine collection, transportation, preservation and examination of stool specimens for intestinal parasites Combines the fixative properties of formaldehyde, alcohol and merthiolate to maintain the morphology for all stages in the life cycles of intestinal parasites Modified Cupric Sulfate–Polyvinyl Alcohol (Modified Cu–PVA) Acts as a preservative/fixative for protozoan trophozoites Slides fixed with Modified PVA may be stained using trichrome or hematoxyli Contains copper sulfate to eliminate disposal problems Sodium Acetate Acetic Acid Formalin (SAF) Multi-purpose fixative/preservative suitable for direct examination, concentration and permanent stain from the same specimen Zinc Sulfite–Polyvinyl Alcohol (Zn–PVA) A mercury-free fixative for permanent staining Low Viscosity–Polyvinyl Alcohol (LV–PVA) A low-viscosity formulation to preserve fecal specimens for permanent staining procedures Fast penetration and drying formula provides excellent fixation
