- A plant glycohemoprotein, Horseradish Peroxidase's (HRP's) enzymatic activity is due to the cyclic reduction and oxidation of the iron atom in the hematin group
- The iron-containing hemin group is covalently bound to the glycoprotein apoenzyme
- HRP readily combines with hydrogen peroxide and the resultant complex can oxidize a wide variety of chromogenic hydrogen donors
- It is composed of seven isozymes, all containing photohemin IX as prosthetic group
- Specific activity: ≥60 purpurogallin units/mg Extinction coefficient: EmM = 100 (403 nm)(Lit.) Presentation: brown powder Isoelectric Point: 7.2(Lit.) Optimum pH: 7.0(Lit.)
