Description

  • Hyaluronidase is the enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid in mucopolysaccharides to low molecular saccharides
  • Hyaluronidase purified from Streptomyeshyalurolyticus is distinct from the known hyaluronidase in its substrate specificity and mechanism of action
  • This enzyme is quite specific for hyaluronic acid
  • Various types of chondroitin sulfate (A,B,C,D,,E), chondroitin, heparin, keratan sulfate and chitin are not attacked by this enzyme
  • This enzyme splits the N-acetylglucosaminic linkages in hyaluronic acid eliminatively , yielding ▿-4,5-unsaturated tetrasaccharides and hexasaccharides as the end-product
