  • Isolate and enumerate yeasts and molds from a wide variety of foodstuffs with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar Base (Dehydrated)
  • The neutral pH of the medium and the presence of selective agent chloramphenicol helps to suppress the bacterial growth, allowing molds and yeasts to grow
  • Rose Bengal in the medium is taken up by mold and yeast colonies assisting the enumeration of small colonies 1
  • Rose Bengal also controls the size and height of mold colonies preventing the overgrowth, resulting in improved enumeration and detection
  • Use Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar for selective enumeration of molds and yeast from foods Easy colony acounting: Rose-Bengal in the medium controls the size and height of mold colonies preventing overgrowth and making colony counting easier
  • Selective: appropriate for isolation of yeasts and molds from foods whose associated flora consists mainly of Gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria Suitable for higher and prolonged incubation temperatures
  • The choice of a suitable medium for enumeration of yeasts and molds is greatly dependent on the nature of the foodstuffs under investigation and the organisms that occur on them 2
  • Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar is recommended for fresh proteinaceous foods whose associated flora consists mainly of Gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria, although it should be noted that chloramphenicol alone may not be sufficient to inhibit the bacterial background
  • Because of the stability of chloramphenicol, Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar is also suitable when higher and prolonged incubation temperatures around 35°C are required
