Description

• Isolate and enumerate microorganisms in milk and dairy products with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Milk Plate Count Agar (Dehydrated)
• Milk Plate Count Agar is equivalent to the medium recommended by British Standard Institution 1 and International Organization for Standardization 2
• Liquid milk and other dairy products are highly perishable and can spoil in a few days
• The bacteria present in dairy products may cause disease or spoilage
• Foodborne illness from dairy product consumption of have been predominantly associated with Salmonella enterica , Listeria monocytogenes , Camplylobacter jejuni and Escherichia coli O157: H7
• Milk Plate Count Agar is recommended for the enumeration of microorganisms in liquid milk, ice cream, dried milk and whey
• Tryptone in the medium provides amino acids and other complex nitrogenous substances
• Yeast extract supplies vitamins
• Addition of skim milk in the medium makes the conditions optimal for microorganisms which grow in milk
