- Ionomycin is an effective Ca 2+ ionopohre that is commonly used to both modify intracellular Ca 2+ concentrations and to calibrate fluorescent Ca 2+ indicators when studying the regulatory properties of Ca 2+ in cellular processes
- Ionomycin also transports Pb 2+ and some other divalent cations, as well as several lanthanide series trivalent cations, at efficiencies that are greater than or equal to those for Ca 2+
- To make a concentrated stock solution, dissolve in either high quality anhydrous DMSO (1.6 mg/mL) or 100% ethanol (20 mg/mL)
- Store frozen, desiccated and protected from light
