Description

  • A major aldehyde product formed by peroxidation of ω-6-unsaturated fatty acids that is regarded as a specific marker of lipid peroxidation
  • Inhibits proliferation and induces differentiation of HL-60 human leukemic cells
  • Also induces cell death in murine alveolar macrophages and in PC12 cells
  • An inhibitor of state 3 respiration at micromolar levels
  • Causes a transient increase in cytosolic Ca 2+ and irreversibly inhibits Na + , K + -ATPase activity (IC 50 = 120μM)
  • Acts as a reversible inhibitor of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK).
