Description

• A cell-permeable indolylphenylthienopyrimidinone compound that increases mitochondrial content without affecting the cell size (∽10μM)
• Reduces mitochondrial protein turnover without affecting any known transcriptional programs of mitochondrial biogenesis
• Reversibly increases uncoupled respiration in non-dividing cells (∽50% increase in 3T3-L1 and HUVEC at 10μM), but appears to be toxic to dividing cells
• Shown to increase the expression of mitochondrial DNA encoded oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) genes without affecting nuclear DNA encoded OxPhos gene expression.
