• General description: NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) is a transcription activator that binds to antioxidant response elements (ARE) in the promoter regions of target genes. NF-E2-related factor 2 mediates the coordinated up-regulation of genes in response to oxidative stress. NF-E2-related factor 2 may also be involved in the transcriptional activation of genes of the beta-globin cluster. NF-E2-related factor 2 is widely expressed, with highest expression in adult muscle, kidney, lung, liver and fetal muscle.

• Target description: ~75 kDa observed. Two isoforms at 68 kDa (isoform 1) and 66 kDa (isoform 2) are known to exist. This protein has been observed at ~75 kDa due to the abundance of acidic residues found in Nrf2, which causes it to migrate anomalously in SDS-PAGE (Abu-Bakar, A., et al. (2007) Drug Metab Dispos. 35(5):787-794.). A ubiquitinated form of NF-E2-related factor 2 may be observed at ~110 kDa (Li, J., et al. (2005). Toxicol Sci. 83(2):313-328.).
