• General description: CENP-A is a 17 kDa histone H3- like protein.
• Immunogen: synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 32-49 located near the N-terminus of human CENP-A, conjugated to KLH.
• Application: Anti-CENP-A antibody has been used in immunoblotting.
• Biochem/physiol Actions: The location of the centromere on the chromosome is dependent on the histone H3 variant centromere protein A (CENP-A). The N-terminal tail of CENP-A is highly different from other H3 variants. Serine 7 of (CENP-A) plays an important role in mitosis-specific phosphorylation. It also plays a key role in kinetochore assembly. Alteration in CENP-A causes various human cancers. CENP-A may play an important role in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and may serve as prognostic marker. It acts as a potential target for gene therapy in the treatment of EOC. The NH2 terminus of human CENP-A is essential for mitotic progression and necessary for the platform function of CENP-A centromeric chromatin in the assembly as well as maintenance of active kinetochores.
• Physical form: Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
