Description

  • General description: Kojic acid, a tyrosinase inhibitor, is produced by several fungi species, including Aspergillus oryzae.[1] It exhibits skin-lightening property, due to its ability to chelate the copper-containing enzyme tyrosinase in the formation of melanin.[2] Kojic acid is also commonly used as a whitening agent in regular cosmetics, bleaching cosmetics, etc.[3] It is found to be a therapeutic agent and helps in preventing pigmentation.[3]
  • Application: Kojic acid may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in skin whitening cosmetics[2][1] and bleaching cosmetics[3] using high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC-UV).
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Tyrosinase inhibitor.
  • Recommended products: Find a digital Reference Material for this product available on our online platform ChemisTwin® for NMR. You can use this digital equivalent on ChemisTwin® for your sample identity confirmation and compound quantification (with digital external standard). An NMR spectrum of this substance can be viewed and an online comparison against your sample can be performed with a few mouseclicks. Learn more here and start your free trial.
