- General description: Hexane is a non-polar organic solvent and a straight-chain alkane with six carbon atoms. It belongs to the Class 2 category of organic solvents, as per United States Pharmacopoeia. It has limited application in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, due to its moderate toxicity.[1][2][3]Pharmaceutical secondary standards for application in quality control, provide pharma laboratories and manufacturers with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the preparation of in-house working standards.
