- Description: Activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM; CD166) is a 105 kD cell-surface adhesion molecule belonging to the Ig superfamily of receptors
- ALCAM is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein, possessing five extracellular Ig domains, a transmembrane domain, and a short cytoplasmic tail
- ALCAM is involved in homotypic adhesion, as well as heterotypic adhesion with its natural ligand, CD6
- A soluble isoform of ALCAM has been shown to inhibit homophilic adhesive interactions
- ALCAM is expressed on a variety of cell types, including activated T and B cells, monocyte-derived dendritic cells, and thymic epithelial cells
- ALCAM expression has also been used as a marker for the isolation of pluripotent stem cells
- Applications Reported: This eBioALC-48 antibody has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis
- Applications Tested: This eBioALC-48 antibody has been tested by flow cytometric analysis of mouse splenocytes
- This can be used at less than or equal to 0.25 μg per test
- A test is defined as the amount (μg) of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 μL
- Cell number should be determined empirically but can range from 10^5 to 10^8 cells/test
- It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest

- This protein binds to T-cell differentiation antigene CD6, and is implicated in the processes of cell adhesion and migration
- Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found.
