  • Importin-7 (IOP7) belongs to the Importin beta family and contains an importin N-terminal domain
  • It functions in nuclear protein import in association with importin-beta subunit KPNB1
  • It mediates autonomously the nuclear import of ribosomal proteins RPL23A, RPS7 and RPL5 and thenuclear import of H2A, H2B, H3 and H4 histones in vitro.Studies suggest itacts as a nuclear import receptor for the Glucocorticoid receptors
  • It also acts as a receptor for nuclear localization signals (NLS) and to promote translocation of import substrates through the nuclear pore complex (NPC) by an energy requiring, Ran-dependent mechanism.Reports indicatethat in HIV-1 infection,IOP7 binds and mediates the nuclear import of HIV-1 Rev.
