- The HY101 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to a collagen receptor, Platelet Glycoprotein VI (GPVI or GP6)
- GPVI is a 58-kD platelet membrane glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily
- Upon blood vessel wall injury and consequent endothelial cell damage, platelets collect upon the exposed collagen fibers present in the subendothelial matrix
- The platelet and collagen interaction leads to activated platelet aggregation and thrombus formation
- Although normally serving a protective function in clot formation that limits blood loss, the platelet GPVI/collagen interaction may also play a role in myocardial infarction and stroke which are associated with the rupture of atherosclerotic plaques.
