Description

• Specifically detects ICAM-1 Clone: W-CAM-1 in Human samples, and it is validated for Flow Cytometry, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry (Frozen), Immunoprecipitation, Inhibition Assays, Immuno Blotting Cell adhesion molecules are membrane glycoproteins that play a major role in inflammation and neoplastic disease
• Four primary groups of adhesion molecules have been described, which includes the integrin receptor family, the immunoglobulin superfamily, selectins, and cadherins
• The intercellular adhesion molecules (ICAM-1, ICAM-2, and ICAM-3) belong to the immunoglobulin superfamily that are the counter receptors for the leukocyte integrin, lymphocyte function associated antigen 1 (LFA-1, CD11a/CD18)
• ICAM-1 (CD54) is a single chain glycoprotein with 7 potential N-linked glycosylation sites
• It is expressed in an inducible dependent manner by endothelial and epithelial cells as well as fibroblasts, macrophages, lymphocytes, and leukocytes
• ICAM-1 can mediate adhesion by binding to CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1) enhancing antigen specific T-cell activation
• ICAM-1 also binds to CD43 and to Plasmodium falciparum infected erythrocytes distinct from the LFA-1 binding site
• Studies indicate that ICAM-1 may also be involved in the development of atherosclerotic plaques; increased expression of ICAM-1 has been observed in all types of atherosclerotic lesions except fibrous placques
• It is thought that endothelial cell expression of ICAM-1 mediates the recruitment of leukocytes to the lesion as it is suggested by its role in inflammation.
