Description
- MA1-82309 recognizes the gp85/gp70 envelope glycoprotein of feline leukemia virus
- The antibody specifically recognizes the epitope defined by amino acids 214-218 of the gp70 sequence (aa MGPNL)
- Some weak cross-reactivity with the sequence MGPLL found in the FeLV p15e membrane protein may also occur
- This antibody effectively neutralizes all three FeLV subgroups (A, B, and C)
- Removal of sodium azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays
- Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus that infects cats
- As a retrovirus, FeLV is transmitted as an RNA virus but the RNA is reverse transcribed into DNA
- Retroviruses contradict the Central dogma of molecular biology
- FeLV is usually transmitted between infected cats when the transfer of saliva or nasal secretions is involved
- If not defeated by the animal’s immune system, the virus can be lethal
- The disease caused by this virus is a form of cancer of blood cells called lymphocytes (a leukemia).
