- It donates electrons directly to molecular oxygen, thereby producing hydrogen peroxide
- Defects in this gene result in pseudoneonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, a disease that is characterized by accumulation of very long chain fatty acids
- Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
