- SIRP beta and SIRP gamma are two members of the signal regulatory protein (SIRP) family
- These proteins are transmembrane receptors that are expressed on the surface of various cells, including immune cells and neurons
- The function of SIRP beta and SIRP gamma is to regulate cellular signaling pathways that are involved in immune responses, cell adhesion, and phagocytosis
- Specifically, these proteins interact with the protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP-1, which is a negative regulator of immune cell activation
- By binding to SHP-1, SIRP beta and SIRP gamma can inhibit immune cell activation and promote immune tolerance
- In addition to their role in immune regulation, SIRP beta and SIRP gamma have also been implicated in neuronal signaling and synaptic plasticity
- These proteins are thought to play a role in the formation and maintenance of synapses, as well as in the regulation of neuronal activity.
