  • General description: 4ME 16:0 PE (1,2-diphytanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine) is a conical and neutral[1] lipid. It is a fatty acid modified lipid. It is a phytanoyl lipid.[2]
  • Application: 4ME 16:0 PE (1,2-diphytanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine) may be used: in the preparation of planar lipid bilayers[1] in the preparation of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) for electrophysiology studies[3] to form virtually solvent-free planar lipid membranes[4]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Diphytanoyl lipids is usually preferred as model membranes in electrophysiological experiments.[5] Diphytanoyl phosphocholine (DPhPC) is capable of preparing oxidation-resistant, stable lipid bilayers for in vitro experiments.[6]
