Description

  • General description: Xylose is a five-carbon sugar that contributes to lignocellulose in plants. Xylose is predominantly found in hardwoods and agricultural residues.[1]
  • Application: D-(+)-Xylose has been used:as one of the component to stimulate microbial activity[2]for the enhancement of biofilm formation[3]as a part of biochemical tests for the identification of B. cereus group[4]for substrate screening characterization[5]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Estimation of xylose in the urine after oral administration, is useful in diagnosing absorption of carbohydrates and malabsorption of non-pancreatic molecules.[6] Xylose plays a significant role in the biologically conversion of plant biomass to fuels and chemicals.[1]
  • Quality: White to off-white.
