- Application: (E/Z)-Phytoene has been used as a reference standard to prepare the standard curve in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phytoene acts as precursors for other carotenoids in nature.[3] It can also serve as free radical quenchers, DNA protectors and anti-inflammatory agents.[3]
