Description
- General description: Phosphatidylserine (PS), an acidic phospholipid is obtained from soybeans (soy-PS), bovine cortex (BC-PS) and synthetic derivation. It is mainly seen in animals, higher plants and microorganisms. It is localized in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane.[1]
- Application: 08:0 PS may be used as control anionic lipid to treat Xenopus eggs to study its effects on the fertilization events.[2] It has also been used to form mixed micelles to study or compare the micellization behavior of mixed zwitterionic/cationic solutions and cationic gemini surfactants with that of 08:0 PS.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylserine (PS) can activate protein kinase C. It aids in removing apoptotic cells and also participates in platelet aggregation.[4]
