- General description: Phosphatidic acid is a simple and basic glycerophospholipid. It is an ester of glycerol with two long chain fatty acids at C1 and C2 position and phosphoric acid at C3 position.[1] PA is synthesized by the hydrolytic action of phospholipase D on glycerophospholipids.[2]
- Application: Egg PA is suitable for use:in the preparation of reconstituted high density lipoprotein (rHDL) along with serum amyloid A (SAA)[3]as negatively charged lipid in the preparation of giant unilamellar vesicles[4]in the preparation of liposomes[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidic acid (PA) is involved in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylserine and cardiolipin.[1] PA functions as a signaling molecule.[2]
