Description
- General description: Phosphatidylethanolamine is an aminophospholipid, which is found in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.[1] It is one of the most abundant glycerophospholipids in biological membranes.[2] Phosphatidylethanolamine is found in nervous tissue.[3]
- Application: 18:0 PE has been used to prepare the intermediate 1,2-dioctadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DSPE)-polyethylene glycol (PEG)-SPDP for the preparation of Lipid-PEG-CpG.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylethanolamine forms pure lipid structures.[4] It modulates membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells.[5] Phosphatidylethanolamine plays an important role in autophagy, cell division and protein folding. It acts as a precursor for the synthesis of various protein modifications. Phosphatidylethanolamine functions as an intermediate for the synthesis of glycerophospholipid classes.[6]
