Description
- General description: Sphinganine-d7 is a deuterated derivative of sphinganine. Sphinganine, also called as dihydrosphingosine is a derivative of sphingosine.[1] Sphinganines are produced in endoplasmic reticulum, by decarboxylating condensation of palmitoyl-CoA and serine.[2][3]
- Application: Sphinganine-d7 has been used as an internal standard for quantification of sphingolipid concentrations in plasma[4] and tissue samples by high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry.[4][5][6]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Sphinganine (SPA) acts as a selective inhibitor of protein kinase C in intact human neutrophils.[1] It may function a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of sphingolipidoses.[2] SPA accumulation enables fumonisin B1 to stimulate apoptosis.[7] It also has an ability to block cholesterol transport in Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease.[8]
