Description
- Application: Sodium taurocholate hydrate was used as an emulsifier in in situ preparation of digestive enzymes.[1]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Taurocholic acid is the main end product of cholesterol catabolism. During enterohepatic circulation, bile taurocholic acid is converted by the microorganisms to taurodeoxycholic acid and deoxycholic acid.[2] These are reabsorbed by the liver via a carrier-mediated process and converted by liver enzymes to taurocholic acid.[2][3]
- Preparation Note: Sodium taurocholate hydrate yields a clear, colorless solution in water at 50 mg/ml.
- Other Notes: For the solubilization of unconjugated bilirubin[4]
