N-palmitoyl-SM is a sphingomyelin containing N-linked acyl chain with 16C atoms.[1] Sphingomyelin is found in the outer leaflet of the mammalian cell membrane.[1][2] It is a vital structural constituent of neurons and lipid bilayers.[3]
