Description
- General description: 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is an arachidonic acid-containing monoacylglycerol.[1] It is a potent endogenous ligand for cannabinoid receptors.[2] 2-AG is found in the brain and hematopoietic cells, such as macrophages, lymphocytes and platelets.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) functions as an agonist of cannabinoid receptors.[2] It weakens synaptic transmission and acts as a neuromodulator. It has cytoprotective activity. 2-AG stimulates the activation of p42/44 MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase), p38 MAPK and c-Jun N-terminal kinase.[2]
