Description

  • General description: Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a substituted diamine[1] and a chelator of metal ions.[2] It has anticoagulant[3] and antibacterial activity.[1] EDTA is an inhibitor of metalloprotease.[2] It evades the undesirable effects of ferric, cupric and manganic ions in bleaching. It blocks cellular division, chlorophyll synthesis and algal biomass production.[1]
  • Application: Chelator of divalent cations. Inhibits enzymes, such as metalloproteases, that require divalent cations for activity.
