• General description: Sigma 7-9® also known as Trizma base or tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, is a versatile biological buffer used in various applications, such as protein freezing, electrophoresis, and the preparation of buffer solutions such as TAE and TBE. With a pKa of 8.06, Tris is particularly valuable in labs working within the typical physiological pH range of living organisms (pH 7.0-9.0). It is also commonly employed in combination with other buffering agents to precisely adjust solution pH. Additionally, Tris aids in enhancing the permeability of cell membranes. This compound is indispensable in laboratories where it is utilized to prepare buffers compatible with biological fluids, serve as a standard pH solution, and facilitate procedures such as lactate dehydrogenase assays, in situ hybridization, and protein extraction from cells.

• Other Notes: The pH values of all buffers are temperature- and concentration-dependent.
