Description

  • General description: Magnesium oxide is a mild basic reagent used in acylations, alkylations, oxidations, reductions, formation of heterocycles, ring-opening of tertiary amines, nitration of aromatic acetals, hydrohalogenation, dehydrohalogenation, carbonylation of organomercurials, and serves as a leaving group to form alkenes.
  • Application: Magnesium oxide can be used as a catalyst in the:Dehydrogenation of n-octane to synthesize octenes.Solvent-free Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes and ethyl cyanoacetate to synthesize electrophilic olefins.
  • Analysis Note: Purity based on metallic impurity content.
