  • Differentiate and identify Mycobacterium spp
  • with the catalase test using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Polysorbate 80, 10% reagent
  • Most strains of mycobacteria produce catalase1
  • The catalase test is a semiqualitative test which was developed to help in differentiation of organisms included in Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (drug-resistant strains) from other Mycobacterium spp2 (non-drug-resistant strains)3,4
  • Polysorbate 80 helps in dispersing the hydrophobic, tightly clumped mycobacterial cells from large aggregates to individual bacilli, thus maximizing the detection of catalase
