Description

  • General description: Lithium hydride is a simple neutral heteropolar diatomic molecule.[1] It liberates hydrogen upon heating it to temperatures above 500oC.[2] Lithium hydride, like lithium aluminum hydride, exhibits a high gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity.[3] LiH is known to have large specific heat and latent heat of fusion.5
  • Application: Lithium hydride may be used as an effective neutron shield for mobile nuclear reactors.[4] LiH may also be used as a rocket fuel, energy storage system, and heat shield.5
