- Bilirubin oxidase, from Myrothecium verrucaria, may be used to determine free hemoglobin in icteric specimens It has potential application in dye effluent decolorization It is a potential treatment for neonatal jaundice It is used diagnostically to determine two types of bilirubin, glucuronide-conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin separately In various enzymatic assay using oxidase-peroxidase (such as Glucose oxidase system, Cholesterol oxidase system, Acyl coenzyme A oxidase system, and Glycerol-3-phosphate oxidase system), accuracy can be increased as the interference of bilirubin is removed by oxidation It has also been used as an enzymatic catalyst for the cathode of biofuel cells that work under neutral conditions
