• Selective medium - Cycloheximide, acriflavine, and nalidixic acid inhibit frequently encountered background organisms

• The medium contains casein peptone and soy peptone which provide nutrients necessary for bacterial growth
• Bacterial growth is stimulated by B-complex vitamins supplied by yeast extract
• Dextrose is the carbohydrate source
• Dipotassium phosphate acts as a buffering agent whereas sodium chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium
