Description

• Cultivate Haemophilus species with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Blood Agar with 5% Rabbit Blood
• Haemophilus spp
• requires hemin (X factor) and NAD (V factor) for growth, both of which are supplied by Rabbit blood
• Horse blood does not contain V factor -inactivating enzymes and supplies X and V factors, one or both of which are required for the growth of Haemophilus spp
• Rabbit blood also allows for differentiation of hemolytic and nonhemolytic species of Haemophilus
• Members of  the genus Haemophilus are fastidious Gram-negative bacilli that commonly cause infections of upper respiratory tract
• Blood Agar with 5% Rabbit Blood can be used in qualitative procedures for the cultivation of Haemophilus species
• Rabbit blood in the medium does not contain V factor -inactivating enzymes and supplies X and V factors, one or both of which are required for the growth of Haemophilus Rabbit blood also allows for differentiation of hemolytic and nonhemolytic species of Haemophilus
