Description

• Isolate Burkholderia cepacia from respiratory secretions of patients with cystic fibrosis with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ OFPBL Medium
• Burkholderia cepacia grows slowly and exhibit variable colony morphology on commonly used media for the culture of respiratory specimens
• As a result, it is easily obscured by overgrowth with Pseudomonas aeruginosa , other respiratory pathogens, and /or commensal microbial flora
• OFPBL (oxidative-fermentative polymyxin B-bacitracin-lactose) medium is a selective and differential medium for the isolation of B
• cepacia complex from respiratory specimens of patients with CF
• Burkholderia cepacia is a motile aerobic oxidase positive Gram-negative bacillus commonly found in liquid reservoirs and moist environments
• It is an important opportunistic pathogen and causes pulmonary infection among individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF)
• OFPBL medium is a selective and differential medium for isolation of B
• cepacia complex from respiratory specimens of patients with CF
