• Immunogen: 3-Mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)
• Application: Anti-MPST antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project . Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. • Biochem/physiol Actions: MPST (mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase) gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the transfer of a sulfur ion from 3-mercaptopyruvate to cyanide or other thiol compounds. It is essential for thiosulfate biosynthesis and for detoxification of cyanide. It plays a key role in cysteine degradation. Deficiency of MPST causes a rare inheritable disorder called mercaptolactate-cysteine disulfiduria (MCDU), which is characterized by excessive amounts of the sulfur-containing amino acid and β-mercaptolactate-cysteine disulfide in the urine. Mental retardation is also observed in some cases.
