• Biochem/physiol Actions: CD2AP (CD2-associated protein) gene encodes a protein that forms a component of the filtration complex in the kidney and its haploinsufficiency serves as a determinant of human susceptibility to glomerular disease. The protein is an adaptor molecule that mediates T cell receptor signaling and podocyte homeostasis. It inhibits TGF-β-induced apoptosis in podocytes. It may function as a direct adaptor between the actin cytoskeleton and cell membrane proteins, such as ephrin and polycystin-2, and regulate the actin cytoskeleton.
