• Biochem/physiol Actions: Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 J1 is a protein encoded by the UBE2J1 gene in humans. In yeast, the enzyme is localized to the cytoplasmic surface of the ER and participates in ER-associated degradation (ERAD) of misfolded proteins. It possesses a transmembrane domain that anchors it to the cytoplasmic surface of the endoplasmic reticulum and is involved in targeting retrotranslocated, ER-associated proteins for proteasomal degradation.
